| Mount Nyamulagira, which sits some 40 kilometres northwest of Goma, the capital of North Kivu province, erupted on Saturday, and while it has not affected any people, the lava has spewed into a non-populated area of the Virunga National Park. |

| The eruption, which was still in progress at 5 pm local time, on January 2, has not, so far, caused any human casualties or damages on human settlements, the lava flowing down from a vertical fissure on the South Eastern slope of the volcano, heading South and South West towards a non populated area of the Virunga National Park. |
