CHAN 2011: Holders DR Congo confident of reaching next stage

Cafonline.com - November 27, 2010
Congo - Football Leopards champions of CHAN

The Leopards were housed in Group C and will face rivals Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire (hosts of the maiden edition) and debutants Mali for the three-week tournament designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues.

The second edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), slated for Sudan from 4-25 February, 2011.

The Congolese will open their defence against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on February 6; face the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire four days later before wrapping against debutants Mali on February 14.

Faced with a daunting task, Badi Gregoire, General Secretary of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA) appears content with the draw.
“It’s a fair draw for us and the other teams. It’s a great challenge and we are not perturbed about the quality of our opponents as we very familiar with Cameroon.

“We are hoping to make it to the next round and will plan ahead from there,” he said after the draw.

The Leopards beat Ghana’s Black Stars 2-0 in the final of the maiden edition held in Cote d’Ivoire in 2009.
