Government Suspends Mining in Three Eastern Congo Provinces

ColtanPresident Joseph Kabila announced on Thursday night that he was suspending all mining operations around Walikale, North Kivu province, during a speech at a banquet in Goma attended by local authorities and representatives of the civil society. The Minister of Mining, Martin Kabwelulu, said in a press release on Saturday that the suspension will be extended to all mining operations in North Kivu, South Kivu and Maniema provinces.

The report details how they targeted Rwandan Hutu refugees and Congolese Hutus in DR Congo, from 1993-2003. It lists human rights violations committed by security forces from all countries involved in what has been called an "African world war".

The IEC will comply with the decision of the Court if it decides otherwise,” Malu Malu said.

The Indian ambassador to the DRC, Devendra Srivastava, hailed the excellent state of relations between Congo and India, as demonstrated with the funding for the Kakobola dam and two other projects worth $33.5 million to build water supplies to rural areas.
