Reigning African club champions TP Mazembe are through to the third round of the African Champions League after 2-0 home win over APR of Rwanda.

TP Mazembe had gone into the match with a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Kigali a fortnight ago.

But striker Tresor Mputu Mabi was on form, scoring both goals for the hosts who played the match in the country's capital Kinshasa.

Ivorian giants Asec Mimosas are out of the competition though.

They could only draw 1-1 with Zanaco of Zambia in Abidjan, who go through 2-1 on aggregate.

Tunisian side Esperance reached the third round of the Champions League on Saturday after securing a 3-1 away win over ASFA Yennenga of Burkina Faso.

The victory ensured their passage to the next round after the easy assignment in Ouagadougou.

Esperance advance 7-2 on aggregate following their impressive 4-1 win in the first leg in Tunis two weeks ago.

South Africa's SuperSport United also progressed despite the 2-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of Ferroviario Maputo in Mozambique.

The visitors advance 3-2 on aggregate thanks to a 3-0 first-leg win a fortnight ago.

Ismaili of Egypt were also beaten in their away game against Tamponnaise of Reunion Island but they managed to qualify.

The visitors suffered a 1-0 defeat with Senegalese import Mamadou Diallo taking advantage of defensive mix-up on the half-hour mark to score.

Ismaili defenders were resolute later in the game to ensure that they qualify 3-2 on aggregate.

"I'm pleased that we managed to qualify despite missing some players, including Al-Hadari and winger Ahmed Samir Farag," Ismaili assistant coach Mahmoud Gaber said.

Meanwhile, six-time champions Al Ahly scraped through to the third round after beating Gunners of Zimbabwe 2-0 on Friday.

The Red Devils advance 2-1 on aggregate thanks to goals by Ahmed Shokri and Mohamed Samir in the second round, second leg clash in Cairo.

Ahly could have won the game by a wider margin but Mohamed Abou-Treika penalty's on 14 minutes was saved goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube.

The home side made amends seven minutes later when Shokri rose highest to head home his first Champions League goal from Mohamed Barakat's free-kick.

Samir made no mistake from the spot in the 45th minute when Emad Motaeb was brought down in the box by Dube.

JS Kabylie of Algeria also reached the third round after defeating Tunisia's Club Africain 1-0 on Friday.

The home side won the match thanks to a first half goal by Yahia Cherif to advance 2-1 on aggregate.

Entente Setif of Algeria thrashed Union Douala of Cameroon 5-0 to qualify 7-0 on aggregate also on Friday.

Sudanese giants Al Merreikh beat Gazelle FC of Chad 2-0 in the second leg to win 3-1 overall.

Gaborone United of Botswana are also through to the third round.

They beat Curepipe Starlight of Mauritius 3-0 at home to wrap up a 6-0 aggregate victory in the tie.

Libyan champions Al Ittihad secured an exciting 4-3 away victory over Difaa Al Jadida of Morocco to win the tie 5-4 on aggregate.

A second-half header from Thabani Kamusoko gave Dynamos of Zimbabwe the 1-0 victory they needed to secure victory over DR Congo's St Eloi Lupopo.

Dynamos advance 2-0 on aggregate.
