Kabila Leads Partial Election Results

President Joseph Kabila votes on November 28, 2011The Independent National Electoral Commission has started publishing partial results of Monday’s presidential election in DR Congo. President Joseph Kabila leads overall while not winning in all provinces. Etienne Tshisekedi is second, leading in Bas-Congo and in the two Kasai provinces.
One Survivor, 20 Dead after Plane Crash in Bandundu

BandunduA woman, who has not yet been identified, is the sole survivor of a plane that crashed in the city of Bandundu on Wednesday in early afternoon. She is in critical condition and receiving intensive care at the General Hospital of Bandundu.
Muzito Signs $42 million Loan Agreement with India for Kakobola Dam

BandunduPrime Minister Adolphe Muzito signed a $42 million loan agreement with India on Thursday for the construction of the Kakobola dam in Bandundu Province. The Indian ambassador to the DRC, Devendra Srivastava, hailed the excellent state of relations between Congo and India, as demonstrated with the funding for the Kakobola dam and two other projects worth $33.5 million to build water supplies to rural areas.
Officials Revise Death Toll from Boat Accident

Kasai RiverOfficials say that 44 people are still missing after a boat sunk on Wednesday in Bandundu Province. Earlier reports had put the death toll at around 140 people. The governor of Bandundu Province, Richard Ndambu Wolang, said from Kinshasa on Friday that five bodies have been pulled from the waters and eighty five people survived the accident.
138 Dead after Boat Sinks on Kasai River

BandunduAt least 138 people are dead after a boat sunk on the Kasai River on Wednesday in Bandundu province. Officials said the boat was headed to Kinshasa and the accident happened near the village of Lingala, downstream the Kasai River — a tributary of the Congo River — near the city of Kwamouth.
