Defending champions TP Mazembe draw at home to Setif

BBC Sport - August 1, 2010
TP Mazembe

Champions TP Mazembe of the DR Congo have been held to a draw at home by visiting Entente Setif of Algeria.

Mbenza Bedi put the Congolese ahead 15 minutes into the first half only for veteran striker Nabil Hemani to score either side of half-time for Setif.

Star striker Mputu Mabi scored from the penalty spot to ensure Mazembe got a share of the points.

Mazembe now have four points from two games in Group A and trail Esperance of Tunisia who have six.

Esperance took a big step towards the semi-final by beating Dynamos of Zimbabwe by a goal to nil in Rades, near Tunis.

Midfielder Oussama Darragi's converted penalty gives the 1994 champions six points from their first two games in the group stage of the competition.

Setif have one point while Dynamos have none.

Algeria's JS Kabylie will be confident of their chances of making it out of the group stage after their win over Nigeria's Heartland.

Striker Fares Hemitti scored their goal early in the second half.

In the other game in Group B six-time champions Al-Ahly of Egypt scored in injury time to beat local rivals Ismaili 2-1 in a very ill tempered match.

Malian referee Koman Coulibaly had to be escorted from the pitch by police after irate Ismaili officials stormed the pitch at the final whistle.
