Constitutional Court Declares Tshisekedi Winner of Presidential Election

The Constitutional Court has confirmed the results published by the Independent National Electoral Commission proclaiming Felix Tshisekedi president of the Democratic Republic of Congo for a 5-year term. Mr. Tshisekedi will become the fifth president of the DRC. This will be the first peaceful transfer of power in DR Congo.
UN Report Blames Ugandan Islamists for 237 Killings in DR Congo

A U.N. human rights official said this week that Ugandan Islamist ADF rebels were mainly responsible for the summary executions of at least 237 civilians in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo between October and December last year. The killings were among more than 300 that have occurred since October in a series of attacks on civilians in Beni territory.
Violence in North Kivu Kills 21, Mostly Women, Children

Officials said they suspected Ugandan rebels have killed at least 21 people in DRC's North Kivu province. The French news agency, AFP, reported Saturday most of the victims of the overnight attack were women and children who were hacked and clubbed to death. The assault happened 45 kilometers from the village of Beni where 26 people were killed earlier in the week.

Colonel Mamadou Moustapha Ndala, who led Congolese army soldiers on the front lines during their victory against the M23 rebels, was killed on Thursday in Beni, North Kivu province, during an ambush. According to military sources, Col. Mamadou Ndala died after a rocket hit his vehicle near the village of Mazizi.
