The president of The Rally of the Opposition, Felix Thisekedi, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of working for the Presidential Majority to “illegally prolong the mandate of the head of state” during a news conference on Monday in Lubumbashi.

“For us, this comedy does not engage us at all. We knew that Mr. Corneille Nangaa was serving Joseph Kabila. So, we say we cannot go from maneuvers to maneuvers. The 504 days have simply been fabricated to allow Joseph Kabila to stay 504 more days in power. Since September 30, the electoral body has not been summoned, which means that there will be no election this year. This is what makes us say that the agreement [with the opposition] has already been violated,” Mr. Tshisekedi said.
